『仏教』(Buddhism) written by Hermann Beckh

This book was written by a German scholar, Hermann Beckh. I heard this book is the buddhist study's representative book in Europa. I think you can find English edition. I haven't seen English edition though.



Beckh explains Buddha's thought well and explain difference between Christian faith and Buddhism etc.



I don't have other general consideration book about Buddha's thought because I didn't need them hence I don't know about others. I think maybe this books can't be a general consideration book for Japanese because his view is European one. Namely, German view intermediates between Buddha and Japanese. To know directly is important.



　仏教を概説する本としてはヨーロッパを代表する本だと聞いています。著者のベック氏はドイツ人の学者です。訳者の渡辺照宏先生は密教研究の偉い先生です。英語にも翻訳されているかもしれないです。



　これは主に釈迦仏教（お釈迦さんの時代の仏教）について書かれたものですので、東アジア仏教については書かれていなかったと思います。確か、上巻は仏陀の成道物語で、非常に美しい描写で知ることが出来ます。下巻は教理について書かれてあって、キリスト教とどう違うのかなども書かれてあります。

　ただ問題だと思うのは、ドイツ人の目を通したお釈迦さんが書かれてあるので、本当の意味で、日本人のための概説書となるか少し疑問です。



　大型書店に行くと、「ええ！？」と思うくらい沢山の概説書がありますが、学者の書いた本しか読まないので、そのあたりのことは全く知りません。本棚を探してみましたが、釈迦仏教を概説した本は、この上下巻のみでした。
