Now(I'm not sure whether Ando-san has died or not), he lives in the temple with no people. Because his direction is very strict and no one can follow him.
Most of people who visit the temple are replied "Ando-san is not here now" by Ando-san. And they have to go back. No one notice the person is Ando-san because he puts on a work cap and gets into a jumper whose zipper was broken and gets into women's Japanese-style pantaloons. And he ties back his pantaloons because the gum comes loose. He is so scroungy and bag people are far better than him. That's why they go back and don't notice he is a great monk.
Ando-san say "Monks should put on clothes people throw away and should eat foods which there are, and shouldn't consider what we want to eat, if there is no food, it is good that we die. He is dystrophic person. And he lose his sight pretty much. Majority of zen monks contemn him due to his life.
A neighbor is family of a physician. The physician forcibly examine him. And the physician's wife throw away clothes because Ando san don't receive clothes.
Once, a teacher visit there.
The teacher said "Can I have the honor of seeing?"
Ando-san said "Temples are not places for sightseeing!".
The teacher said "I'm sorry, I'm wrong. Can I pray before the statue of Bankei-zenji?"
Ando-san said "Say so from the start. Who are you?"
The teacher : I'm a teacher of an university.
Ando-san : There are no good teacher in universities these years. You don't know even how to express in Japanese.
The teacher : Yes, I think so. You're right.
Ando-san got laughing and said "OK, follow me."
Ando san is a close friend of the chief priest of Nanzenji-temple. And the priest said "young monks can't follow you because you are a very strict teacher." to Ando san. And Ando san told the story helplessly.
