These days I'm tired to study English. There are many words I have to memorize and are grammars I need to check again. At least, I want to pass 1st grade test of Society for Testing English Proficiency. It is said it equivalent to class A of The United Nations Association's Test of English.



I bought a book about how to write logical explanation in English. Hmm, there are many things I have to study. There is a long way to go before 1st grade now. Listening is main problem, I think. Especially I have to recognize what Japanese examiner say in Japanese-English. Their pronounces are hard to understand. It is funny eh? To get be 1st grade, I have to adapt myself to poor pronounce. My pronounce is also poor though. Any way, in the corse of resting, I will restore my morale.



Today, I want to introduce several Japanese-English word. Those English words were made in Japan.

Nighter : Night game

Two base hit : two-bagger, double bagger.

Three base hit : three-bagger.

Order made : custom-made

Guard man : Security

Catch ball : play catch

Rock : Rock music

Jazz : Jazz music

Classic : Classical music

Golden time : prime time

Three size : measurements

Dead ball : hit by pitch

TV game : Video Game

Number plate : license plate

Back mirror : rear-view mirror

Half : For example, Japanese American whose parent is not Japanese.

Paper Driver : Sunday driver

My boom : personal taste

My home : one's own house

Running : Jogging

Loss time : added time, additional time

Y shirt : shirt (originated in white shirts)

Cameraman : photographer (TV's is also too)

Complex : feeling of inferiority

Cider : soda pop

SIlver seat : priory seat

Bike : motor cycle.

Mania : enthusiasm, enthusiast

Life line : infrastructure

Reform : renovation

Salary man : salaried man

Make drama : make it dramatic

Anime : I think all knows about this word.

Sand : Sandwich

Super : Super market

Depart : department store

Digi-came : Digital Camera





Makudo : McDonald's

Kenta : Kentucky Fried Chicken







Of corse, we write them in Katakana-alphabet. are there any other funny Japanese-English words?

Although I know English speakers feel sense of discomfort, believe or not, those are Japanese, all Japanese use or all Japanese understand. And there are more Japanese-English words. Which one is funniest?
