A movie and Dictionary of Indo-European Roots etc

A movie and Dictionary of Indo-European Roots etc

Tonight I watched a movie titled "俺は、君のためにこそ死ににいく(Ore ha kimi no tame ni koso shinini iku)" made by Ishihara Shintaro, the governor of Tokyo. The title means "I go on the Kamikaze mission for you.", "You are the person whom I go on the Kamikaze mission for.". http://www.chiran1945.jp/ Put simply, it is a sad movie. I thought it was good thing I visited Yasukuni shrine last year.

I checked its DVD and found it has Japanese caption. People who can read Japanese can see the movie, I think. Of course you are required Kanji skill. It contained, Tokushima(Awa) dialect(close to Osaka dialect), Kagoshima(Satsuma) dialect too.

I bought two books at book store one is a book about Sub-prime mortgage in America. The other is about water resource war. First one explains how the mortgage issue happened. For last one, Japan has rich water resource. So, we don't care about it for real and I thought I should know about it.

Also I ordered "The American Heritage Dictionary of Indo-European Roots" on Amazon.com. When I searched a dictionary Hayato san recommended, I come across the dictionary. "Candle's cand means white light". Interesting. Candy's cand is also too? Candidate's cand is also too. Roman candidates or volunteer wore white cloth to evince their innocence, as I recall. "candent" means 白熱した。in Japanese. "candid opinion" means 率直な意見(Soccyoku na iken, explicit opinion (almost). 率直(candid) is white. VERY INTERESTING. "candid camera" means "concealed camera". Hmm. Why? It costs me only about 2,000 yen. I remembered I enjoyed etymology of Sanskrit and Kanji. I'll get it next week. Still I'm thinking which dictionary I should buy. I think I need to check them at real book store.

I imaged how it goes if Japanese language has linked sounds.

私は大阪で昨日オリンピックの代表選手を見ました。

I saw a member of Olympic team at Osaka.

わたしは、おおさかで、きのう、オリンピックのだいひょうせんしゅをみました。

(This is with out linking)

わたしゃー、おーさかで、きのーりんぴっくのだいひょうせんしゅをみました。

(This is with linking)

Linking one doesn't make sense.

こっちで、でっかいイモをおたべになられますか?

(Do you eat a big potato here?)

(This is without linking)

こっちでっかいもーたべにゃられますか?

(This is with linking)

Linking one doesn't make sense.

I understand why we can't catch soon.

Well, baseball season will begin next month. For MLB, it is really too bad Igawa couldn't good job with Yankees. I hope he back to my Tigers soon. Tigers was at 3rd place last year. Hmm... Go River Cats and Tigers! Die Yomiuri Giants!

Well, there are many things I have to do tonight.

Have a nice day.

Oxford, Longman or others?

Some one please tell me about English dictionary. I have "Oxford Advanced Learner's dictionary". I often use this dictionary when I must consult a English dictionary and this one is very good. However, I guess this one is for British English. Long-Man is better for American English? I must buy a dictionary for American English? Oxford one is sufficient for American English also too? Is there any other better dictionary for American English? I guess I have to ask about it to Japanese too because I'm Japanese but I think I have to ask about American's opinion too. Thank you.

Well,I bought a interesting book titled "Dr. English's Listening Check-up". I'm diagnosed. It seems I'm infected by linking virus and preterition virus. The Dr. prescribed for me. And I'm practicing with nurses.

You know, linking words have a bit different pronunciation. "Look at it rain" sounds like "Look ali-rain" "I couldn't give him an answer then either" sounds like "I couldn't give (hi)man answer zeneasier.". I guess with practice, I will distinguish. Now I can't distinguish even whether I know the words or not. I need to adjust to those pronunciation. Perhaps, other Japanese people have same problem as mine.

I bought Gos Ford Park and Titanic tonight.

Well, I enter the hospital of Dr. English now. I hope I will grow strong in health. :-D

STAR WARS ~Episode Japan~ etc

Last night I watched STAR WARS Phantom Menace without English capture. I listed roughly 140 lines, which I couldn't catch, to grasp what I don't understand. Most of them are very easy sentences to read except lines which have unknown words.

I can't catch many quickly pronounced abbreviated forms and not important words in not clear pronuciation, for example "what I have to"(I can pronounce this though.) Especially, Qui-Gon Jinn's pronunciation is very difficult to catch. He pronounces his lines with not clear pronunciations. As for C3PO? His pronunciation is OK in most cases. About R2D2? I think his pronunciation is best, but he never speak English. About Jar Jar Binks? Messa tink my don't kneed too couch him ligne.

Anyway, I must study English to pass 1st grade exam. I ordered a text book which explains intensively about how to catch abbreviated form's pronunciation and fast ones. I'll read it first, then I will get around to other DVDs my friends recommended.

I found STAR WARS's latest episode on You Tube.

STAR WARS EPISODE JAPAN

Hmm, these Jedi knights are faint.

If George Lucas made Episode Japan, what-like movie would he make?

"Revenge of the Geisha"?

Hmm. I have a bad feeling about this.

Have a nice weekend.

Star Wars

I finished listing English words of STAR WARS Episode 1. I guess I listed about 150 terms. There were 3 difficult expressions. Fewer words more than I expected. Could you help me?

"But not at the expense of the moment."

Its context is ,,,,

Obi-wan : I have a bad feeling about this.

Qui-Gon Jinn : I don't sense anything.

Obi-wan : It is not about the mission, Master.

It's something...elsewhere,, elusive.

Qui-Gon Jinn : Don't center on your anxieties, Obi-wan.

Keep your concentration here and now, where it belongs.

Obi-wan : But Master Yoda said I should be mindful of the future.

Qui-Gon Jinn : But not at the expense of the moment.

: Be mindful of the living Force, young Padawan.

I assumed Qui-Gon Jinn meant "It is not what you should now be doing.". Am I right?

For that matter, it seems it is said the name "Qui-Gon Jinn" is Kaigan-jin(Japanese word). Kaigan means "eye-opining(Realize, get the enlightenment, etc)". "Jin" means "person", "people". Anakin? If his name was "Tamakin", it means "Golden balls" in Japanese, that is, it means "testis". When I was a kid, we used to said "I'm Tamakin Skywalker!" as a joke when we played. I'm deeply sorry for writing such a thing, I will never fail to write such a thing again. I promise. :-D

"What has that got to do with anything?"

There are too many pronouns. It is very confusing. I can sensuously understand what Anakin Skywalker meant, but I couldn't understand exactly.

"Jam the doors."

A commander said "Jam the doors.". Soldiers pushed buttons, then doors were closed. According to Oxford's dictionary,

verb(-mm-) PUSH WITH FORCE1[vn + adv. / prep.] to push sth somewhere with a lot of force:

He jammed his fingers in his ears. A stool had been jammed against the door.

With lot of force? Soldiers just pushed buttons. I should not dwell on it?

If it's okay with you, please advice me.

I found an interesting expression.

"If we can't get the shield generator fixed, we'll be sitting ducks."

"Sitting ducks" (also sitting 'target) nouna person or thing that is easy to attack, according to Oxford one. If I don't understand what the expression means, I may become a sitting duck someday. STAR WARS lengthened my life-span.

Anyway, STAR WARS is one of masterpieces in the world, indeed.

Some years ago, a TV programs broad casted a movie people got lined up to see Star Wars episode one in the premiere of it in Shinjyuku. I found a young guy on TV. I thought I've seen him somewhere. I noticed he was not my friend but It was me.

Well, I feel unuseal amount of drowsiness.

Have a nice day.

Entry for February 20, 2008

I mapped out a general plan to pass a first phase test of 1st grade. I have been studying English inefficiently after that I passed pre-1st grade test. I have to go back to basics of English studying for a test. Basically, the most important thing is that I need to improve skills to get a high mark. It is different from to improve English proficiency. I could went back basis of what I have to do now thanks to Hayato-san showed his family's way and inspired me. I noticed I confused other people's purpose of English studying. I noticed I should study only for a test now, not for improving English proficiency. I think Hayato-san is a good English teacher too. Friends who want to have an excellent command of English should take advice from him. I think Hayato san's way is right. (Just my porpose is different now.)

What I must not do is ineffectual things. Therefore I should improve only listening comprehension and vocabulary.

I have to purchase text books to improve listening comprehension. Some friends advised me about good text books and TV programs. Thank you very much for your advice!

As to vocabulary, Vocabulary test of 1st grade are famous as impractical. However, it is sure memorizing words is most easy way to get a high mark for me. If I get more 5 points, the battle will come easy. Hence, I decided to memorize 500 words. (It is said the section of 1st grade is getting practical these years.)

Today, I checked over exam questions of capacity for reading with text book. It is far easier than I felt at test site. Hmm, it is easier than TIME, I felt. Logical structures are very simple. Questions are also simple. Hmm, publishers might inserted only easy questions.

Also I checked texts of the listening comprehension test. Hmm, I found my biggest problem. It is unused "音変化(speech-sound transformation in English?)" , for example, "ought to, oughta","won't tell, "loud noise, lounoise". Hmm, I may be able to over come it sooner than expected. I think I can get at least more 5 points here.

Oh, 5+5=10. I need more a point. :-D

Oh! I have to go!!!

Jiao-zi

Japan found Chinese pesticide on Chinese jiao-zi's package. Some Japanese people who have eaten the jiao-zi were hospitalized. Chinese food products vanished from stores since several weeks ago. I'm utterly scandalized.

China seems to said "Chinese didn't do it, and said "It is an isolated case.". Can you believe that it is an isolated case? China said "It is not our structural problem.". Hmm, can you believe it is not structural problem? I can't believe. Even if any Chinese didn't do it, China must be have a structural problem. I can cite many reasons. If I brief them, I can say Chinese society can't catch up with developing speed now. It is obviously a structural problem.

Panama announced officially "115 people were killed by made-in-China-medicine.". I heard Chinese people who visit Japan buy made-in-Japan-Chinese-herbal-medicine in a queue.

It is said Chinese rural governments are uncontrolled by Chinese communist party. Hmm.

Hmm, Jiao-zi is one of my favorite foods. Hmm.

Have a nice day with made-in-your-country-jiao-zi.

Atsumori

Today, I was awakened by myself singing a traditional song, Atsumori. :-D I was astonished by my self. "Atsumori" is a song about Taira Atsumori, a nobel samurai, who was killed by Kumagai Naozane, a samurai, when Atsumori was 16 years old, in 1184. Oda Nobunaga, a one of most famous warring lord, loved to sing and dance it.

The song's lyrics

「敦盛」(Atsumori)

人間五十年

下天の内をくらぶれば

夢まぼろしのごとくなり

一度生を得て

滅せぬ者のあるべきか

A man's life is only fifty years.

In the universe,

what is there but a lying dream,

Fleeting illusion.

Is there any born

Who ever does escape

from the deth?

According to wiki,

The Death of Atsumori as told in the Tales of the Heike

The legend, as told in The Tales of the Heike, goes as follows. The Heike were scattered by Yoshitsune's attack from the Ichi-no-Tani cliff. Kumagae no Jirō Naozane, while scanning the beach for fleeing soldiers, spotted the young Atsumori swimming towards the fleeing vessels. Kumagae beckons Atsumori with his fan, taunting Atsumori saying, "I see that you are a Commander-in-Chief. It is dishonorable to show your back to an enemy. Return!"(316, t. McCullough). The two grappled on the beach, but Kumagae was too powerful. Kumagae knocks off Atsumori's helmet to deliver the finishing blow, only to be struck by the beauty of the young noble. Atsumori was "sixteen or seventeen years old, with a lightly powdered face and blackened teeth--a boy just the age of Naozane's own son..."(317, t. McCullough).

Kumagae, wishing to spare the boy, asks for Atsumori's name, but the child refuses. Atsumori simply says that he is famous enough that Kumagae's superiors will recognize his head when it is time to assign rewards. At that moment, other Minamoto warriors arrived at the scene, and Kumagae knows that if he doesn't kill Atsumori, the other warriors surely will. Kumagae reasons that it is better if he is the one to kill Atsumori, because he can offer prayers on his behalf for the afterlife. Crying, Kumagae beheads the boy. Searching the body for something to wrap the head in, he came across a bag containing a flute. He realized that Atsumori must have been one of the soldiers playing music before the battle and thought, "There are tens of thousands of riders in our eastern armies, but I am sure none of them has brought a flute to the battlefield. Those court nobles are refined men!"(317, t. McCullough).

It is said that the beheading of Atsumori is what led Kumagae to take priestly vows and become a Buddhist monk.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taira_no_Atsumori

Well,

Kumagai Naozane became a student of Hōnen who was the founder of Japan's Pure-Land- Buddhism-Sect, Jyōdo(Pure-land)-shū(sect).

It is a photo of 白梅(white ume apricot) blooming at Suma where Atsumori and Kumagai battled. I used to go fishing to Suma.

Atsumori's story became an item of Noh, Jyohruri, Kabuki and so on.

Well, I want to write one more blog today but I have to do what I have do at first.

Entry for February 17, 2008

As a quick-fix practice, I watched "Star Wars Episode 1" by half to confirm my listening skill. Now I have only its 1,2,3 and Pirates of Johnny Depp 1,2. I found there were 41 English words which I couldn't understand. Some of them were words which I've memorized once. ¥ means I remember I've memorized it once.

"seal off"'s off is a trick for me. the "off" is as if one peel off sticker or something. We call sticker as "シール(seal)". It is confusing. I couldn't find some words in my dictionary.

Hmm, there are many strange expression in the movie.

"My tink,, bery bery,,, yousa,,,Tis" :-D I can't understand what the creature said.

I think,,,very very,, you,,,,,sa?,,,,this,,,,Hmm.

Anyway, I think now is the time to put out a last spurt.

Life is very short and does not turn.

Have a nice sunday.

I heard Russian bomber, Tu-95, violated the airspace of Japan. 24 SDF's air planes including F-15s scrambled. The Tu-95 flied also above Nimitz, American aircraft carrier. American F/A-18As etc also scrambled. I want to say "Pay fuel bill and employment cost" to Russia. Of course, pay to my account. In-kind payment is OK. Put Sakhalin oil field in my hand.

ho, ho, ho

What is their purpose? They gather data?

Putin goes a little overboard.

How to cook Okonomi-yaki etc

There are 3 topics in today's blog. It is an Okonomi-Yaki, I cooked. Okonomi-yaki is a popular food in Osaka. The one is basic one. Sometimes I cook it. It is said my Okonimi-yaki is delicious. I tell you how to cook it here. However, I don't know detail because I always cook it as a rule of thumb. I guess you can do it.

Stuffs

flour (adequate dose)

cut cabbage (adequate dose)

thin slice pig meat (adequate dose)

Japanese instant bouillon. (bonito, seaweed broth, dried sardine)(adequate dose)

salt and pepper

egg, one per man

boiled and dried bonito flesh(Katsuo-bushi) (adequate dose)

mayonnaise (adequate dose)

sauce for Okonomi-yaki (Otafuku-sauce is best) (adequate dose)

How to cook

Put flour into bowl. Put water into bowl. Put (a) egg(s) into bowl and put instant bouillon into the bowl. Mix round and mash them. Put cut cabbage into bowl. Mix around them with your ladle. It is the dough.

Put dough into frying pan. Flame is medium heat. Put thin slice pig meat onto the dough. Sprinkle salt and pepper a bit. get a lid on with low heat. Wait several tens seconds and turn off the heat and steam for several tens seconds. Turn down the Okonimi-yaki and burn it. Flame is low heat. Wait several tens seconds and turn off the heat and steam again. Prod it to confirm whether it was burned well. (You must not extract water too much from it) Put sauce , mayonnaise onto boiled and dried bonito flesh and Okonomi-yaki. Finished.

I added egg onto the Okonomi-yaki. If you want to egg. Before you take up the okonomiyaki from frying pan, you can add it. I think you understand how to do it if you see my pic. Also I added sprouts and Tenkasu (chaff of Tenmura's cating) into it.

"Okonomi" means "as you like". You can put your favorite stuffs into/onto it as you like. But you shouldn't put Sushi, abluent, clothes washer, car and President Bush etc into/onto it. To put sea-foods and pan-fried noodles are popular. I often put pan-fried noodles into Okonomi-yaki.

I think if you cook a basic Okonomi-yaki, you can image which stuff you can put into it next time.

Second Topic

If you know an interesting movie characters speak in formal English, please tell me!!!!! Hmm, I should have studied English. I did nothing for 1st grade English test(first phase test) these months. But, my latest score was the best among scores I took so far. I don't know the reason. It's strange. Anyway it is obvious that I need to memorize English words and practice listening English conversation. I overcame tractate section. My score comes short 11 points.

I get 80% of maximum points of explanatory text listening. It was good enough score. It seems I understood chemistry's narrative text. However, for conversation listening, I got only 50%. Hmmmmm.

I got only 28%(7/25) of maximum points of word-test. I need to take at least more 30%. Hmmmmm.

I got 80% on long-form reading test. Those sentences are not easy, more difficult than common news paper's ones. I always take good score. I'm good at reading test even in Japanese. And I overcame English essay-writing.

Namely, I couldn't get scores from easy questions. However, conversation listening is not easy for me. Someone please tell me why I can't take good score on it! Perhaps, the reason comes from that I don't like to hear conversation in English and don't like to memorize idioms.

Hmm.

Hmm.

Hmm, Conversation. Hmm. It is the biggest problem for me. Then, why did I passed interview test of pre-1st grade test? Heaven knows? Hmm. I need to practice listening conversation. However, there is no interesting conversation text books in book stores. Also, always I've memorized conversations because I listen it many times. Hence, it is not a good practice. Also I need sentences which is translated into Japanese.

Hmm. I guess I should buy DVDs of movies. I used to listened Star-Trek Next Generation. When I said "Proceed". My Japanese friend who grew up in America got laughing. Is it a funny expression? Hmm, Natives knows.

I must take interview test if I pass the first phase test. The most difficult matter of English interview test is that examiner is Japanese who speak English in broken pronounce. There are many books contains native English, but there is no text which books contain such English. Who practices to listen it? Every time I get angry a bit when I hear their "Japalish" at interview test.

When I took interview test of pre-1st grade, examiner was an old Osakan who speak Osakan-style-king's-English, which sounds like a bit Manchu-Chinese. I cursed my destiny.

Third Topic

Sometimes I explain about my self, saying "My character is very similar to now-dead Endo Shusaku. If you read his essays you will understand how my character is.". If you all are Japaense, I could said so here too.

Yesterday I read his essay again. Hmm, what he thought is very similar to what I think. It is as if I wrote his essays, even though Endo is a better writer than me. Some my friends who read his essays told me the close resemblance between me and Endo, and I realized it long ago.

Endo's representative work is "Silence". He was a Catholic, but he studied about Buddhism well. Yesterday I noticed that he has read some books about Indian and Buddhist thought which I've read.

He wrote he was told that he was a pigeon in his previous life and he will be a deer in the afterworld by a psychic Indian at India, and wrote "If you find a deer, at Nara-city, which looks at you with lovely round eyes is me.". Now I want to go to Nara to find such a deer.

I guess there is not his essays which is translated into English. Too bad. I wanted you to enjoy his jokes. His jokes is also resemble mine closely. I don't know the reason. Some friends say "You are another Endo Shusaku." to me. That means I can be a great novelist? OK, I'll try to write a novel. I also like to read and want to write religious literature and history novels. Those friends say "Try to write it!". I have a plan I make them turn up in my novel as smurai who jolly others well too much.

ho, ho, ho

Have a nice weekend!

「祇園精舎の鐘の声、諸行無常の響あり」

Last december, I was very happy. This month I became anxious. Our life is ever-changing life. I recalled a line of "The tale of the Heike", Japanese classic literature. Hmm, it is beautiful.

This line is so beautiful. It has so beautiful sound in Japanese.

This is translated one. I found this on Wiki.

"The sound of the Gion Shōja bells echoes the impermanence of all things; the color of the sāla flowers reveals the truth that the prosperous must decline. The proud do not endure, they are like a dream on a spring night; the mighty fall at last, they are as dust before the wind."

Hmm, maybe the translation on Wiki has problems. If you want to about it more, please study by your self.

Along the history of the world, all examples congruent with the line. I must take care. :-D

Anyway, this line is so beautiful.

Yesterday, I watched a regrettable news reporting a U.S. Marine was arrested on suspicion of raping a 14-year-old Japanese girl on the southern island of Okinawa.

http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUST27525420080212

I've heard Self Defense Force prohibits soldiers from getting out from their base in other country. I think U.S. Marine can prohibits all soldiers except officers from getting out. I think it is the most rational solution.

According to The Tokyo-Shinbun, 133 Americans military personnels including soldiers, civilian employees, and their family were arrested in Okinawa in 2003, last year 43 were arrested. Constant Crimes by Those Americans in Okinawa is a serious problem for people in Okinawa and it is against the national interest of America and Japan. I hope U.S. forces makes serious efforts to solve the problem.

Today is National Foundation Day of Japan. Japan was founded in BC 660? Therefore this year is 2668th year? I'm not sure. I'm not care. Anyway today is national holiday. National holidays are happy day because I can rest. I want one more National Foundation Day.

Today I checked financial statements of Japanese companies. Hmm, also in Japan most of them are incredible. Many companies do profit manipulation legally. To know exact condition of them, we must study how to manipulate. I read them with a wry smile. :-D I guess I slept over some manipulations. I'll study about it more. What I'm interesting is that individual investors buy stocks in blissful ignorance of what was going on. I was also one of them. Maybe, I'm still one of them. To find artful manipulation is not easy for me.

Well, although I don't deny finance capitalism, it is obvious that Wall Street etc enjoyed too much. They should have done in moderation. Incentive for them are too high. Chicken race which was heated up by the incentive has ended. There are many hulks on the road of finance capitalism. Common people are sticked to cleanup. There are other causes though.

Well, I want to read a book.

Have a nice week.

Reconciliation and 笑点

I don't know much about policies of American presidential candidates because It is a bit hard work to read their policy written in English and to listen to their policy spoken in English. However, I think understand a bit about them. A Misstep by Bush would that he harassed Democrats and didn't consider that reconciliation policy is important. Now Bush suffers a reaction.

I read an article that "Obama sets up reconciliation policy between Republican and Democrats.". I ask that Obama extends the "reconciliation" to diplomatic policy.

Anyway, laughing brings the world happiness.

This is one of most popular TV programs, Shouten(笑点), in Japan.

I can't stop laughing!!!!!!

Good Bye Corn-Ethanol?

It is said a report about Bio-fuel will be published. I think once I wrote I got a creepy feeling about ethanol policy by Bush, American farmers would get profit but it causes sharp gain of cereals, and wrote passing CO2 in the atmosphere may not be declined.

The report seems to say "Ethanol-use makes global warming worse. To make cereals, many forests which take in CO2 will be vanished. As a result, CO2 increases substantially.".

As I said, Japan will proceed ethanol vapour made of weeds in 2 years, already is proceeding ethanol vapour made of scrap woods. perhaps, Japan's one is no problem. We can use thinned wood too and cutting thinned wood is good for forest. That rice for bio-fuel is not beautiful. My aesthetic feeling doesn't accept it.

Cars can be turned to Hybrid car, electric car and hydrogen car etc. But we, human, need cereals. Skyrocket of dietary item's price may cause riots in the world. That is, Bush's policy is wrong if the report is right. Bush is a hasty man?

About math education in Japan.

These years, it seems many Japanese people care about worrying indication of declining academic abilities. "Is it worrying?" This is my question. Although it is sure that emerging countries went ahead of Japan, I don't care about it. It seems many people believe decline in academic ability, especially math and English, cause decay of nation power. Is it true?

An American economist reported that creative, active and independent-minded students are not good with math. Now Japanese companies need creative workers as well as tame workers. I think people's thought goes against the times if the economist is right. Although my opinion maybe a bit extreme, people's thought is a bit too ordinary and a bit too classical. Emerging countries walk on ready-made way, Japan and other developed countries walk on creative way.

And, specialists discuss about method to improve scholastic ability of student. Some seems to insist that we should increase classes of math. I'm sure it is not fundamental solution. The problem is that teacher can't teach math well.

It is said nowadays students don't like math. Teachers decide prematurely that students who are not good with math are incapable. But I think they are not incapable but they don't like rule of mathematical expression and can't accept the rule psychologically. If teachers make an ingenious plan, some or many students will understand that they can understand math(students believe they are incapable). That is, students are not incapable but teachers are incapable. Not to want to adhere to rules is teenager's nature.

I'm a person with an arts background. I studied why I was not good with math. I learned even Pascal(as I recall) insisted "0-4=0". It is nothing special that students can't understand idea of "minus". I heard this calculation "minus x minus = plus" is very new, this was authorized and schools teach it at school in Europa, in 19th century. It is nothing special that students can't understand idea of "minus".

"minus x minus = plus" was my big question at junior school. Teacher taught that "minus is can be regard as borrowing, suppose you borrow 100 yen and you borrow more 100 yen, how much is your total debit? to explain idea of minus". it is "-200" but I thought "debt(minus) x debt(minus) = asset? It can't be!!". It seems a famous novelist in western country thought so too. Finally teachers said "Memorize the rule!". I coundn't undestand and hated math. Now I can explain why "minus x minus = plus" but I think it is not out of the way even if students don't understand and hate math by teacher's explanation.

After all, I took good score at math but I had to put time into studying math. If teachers were good with teaching, I could got better score at math and other subjects.

I think who need more classes are not students but teachers. Teachers must learn how they should teach it more.

I took the photo at Koukuu-kouen yestarday. Those kids will hate math. :-D

Have a nice day.

Plum buds and Snow

It is snowing in Tokyo area. I went to 航空公園(Koukuukouen-Park) in my city to enjoy snow scape and see plum(梅) trees. Very few plums bloomed. Feel of snow when I foot it was so nice. The photo is plum's buds I took. I want a single-lens reflex camera.....

At the park, after I put 1,000 yen into a vending machine, the machine packed up. I called to vending-machine-control-center of Japan-CocaCola about it. A complaint handler, a person of good address, said they will mail 1,000yen to my house. I guess they will mail me a complimentary ticket with 1,000 yen. I will benefit from the accident. Yay! :-D

If many plum blossoms bloomed, I could take a photo as if Dogen's haiku. I could put a blossom on white snow and took the photo. I want to do it once. A plum on the snow means 有(U)(existence)'s start from 無(Mu) in Dogen's haiku. Dogen is the founder of Soto-Zen of Japan.

Buds of plum makes me to feel beginning of something. This modest feeling of plum blossom is so nice. As I said, although Cherry is the representative blossom of Japan, I prefer Plum to Cherry. Plum blossoms and their flavor in snow scape is wonderful. White snow and Plum's contrast is so wonderful. It is sad that global warming may rob this happiness from us.

Have a nice week.

State of the Union address

Most speeches by politicians are dull. I watched "State of the Union address" by President Bush. His thought has some problems, I think. Even though he said American economy is vulnerable now, he also criticized China's exchange operation and said as if he won against Al-Qaeda. I don't understand. His speech sound like a paradox.

If China does liberalization of exchange control, the world economy will shrink. Many American companies depends on China's cheep pay. Chinese banks have enormous defaulted credit. Chinese government can't control their people now. Pernicious revolution may happen. If China's booming economy break down, obviously America cannot get recover. Japan also too.

Sub prime mortgage problem is linked with 9.11. It seems after it, American economic situation become unsound below the surface. Other countries were getting to punk out on America since 9.11. We can regard still 9.11 affects on current economic situation. If America suffers massive economic depression, we can regard Al-Qaeda won. Even if Bush and American people don't think so, not a few non-Americans will think so, I think. Either Bush and Osma bin Laden could win at this phase. If he attacks America now,,,, I've had horrifying realization....

Also I think Bush played into Osama bin Laden's hands. America lost its dignity due to Iraq war, France and Germany etc casted off America. Iraq and Al-Qaeda are not friends each other. All specialists knew about it. American young soldiers had to did at Iraq for it etc. Also, even if Bush and American people don't think so, not a few non-Americans will think so, I think. Sometimes I think all things might be tricks by Osama.

I think one of main purpose of Iraq and Afghan war was not to lose investment to America. If terrorists attack America often, no one would invest in America and buy dollar then America drastically decay. America would be forced to do drastic arms reduction, and America lost most.

Well, I'll write more about my opinion about Iraq war someday. I have to sleep. Good night.

It is a photo of Japan sea.

About Cool-Japan

Now, Japanese pop culture spread to the world. Cool-Japan phenomenon began in 1990s. I haven't imagined it become such popular. When I stayed in California, no American knew about Japanese pop culture. However, many of friends who emailed to me know enjoy Japanese pop culture. Most of them are more informed with trendy ones than me.

Mariah Carey, Cameron Diaz and Britney Spears are a big fan of "Hello-Kitty". Pokemon is translated to 25 languages and broadcasted in more than 60 countries. In addition, Hello-Kitty is same age as me. Also, I was astonished that there are many "Otaku" people in the world. I can't believe my eyes.

Now "Kawaii" is getting be a global language. (Kawaii means "cute". ) The aesthetic feeling of Kawaii are accepted by many non-Japanese.

I knew Japan is gazed enviously by many non-Japanese people however, I haven't imagined even Londoner and Parisian also like Hello-Kitty. That young People in the world enjoy Japanese pop-culture is that they identify with Japanese. This situation must be a fortune of Japan.

Even though politicians often talk about amicability ideologically, I think ideology don't throw up enough affinity. A thinker Mr. Kariya Kojin said "Literature can be politics in advanced interpretation." Hmm, aha, affinity would be able to more powerful tie than ideology.". Pop culture, for example Anime, is a kind of literature in advanced interpretation, I think.

Even Hollywood celebrity said "Japan is cool". Hmm, I can't believe my eyes. I can't understand why Japanese pop-culture is accepted by all over the world. Anyway, what I cannot help understanding is that Japanese pop-culture has an universal status. If it has only newness, Cool-Japan didn't abide. Also I guess the "Cool-Japan Phenomenon" is closely-linked to Japan's high tech. For example, I can't regard that "Spirited Away" and Toyota's "Prius" have no connection with each other.

To write blog, I want to write more about what I am thinking. I want to write about JAPAN's bright future because recent Japanese people are overly negative about our future. I firmly believe Japan's future is very bright. American future, Vietnamese future are also bright, even though America and Japan will decay relatively. Oh, anyway, time to quite.

Have a nice day.
