Kimono is not expensive.

These years, we can buy nice kimono and those are not expensive. Such kind of kimonos are made of newly-developed fabric. We can buy those at 10,000 yen or so. Those designs are not bad, rather, I often see nice designed ones. I think those are so nice as souvenirs.

If you(girls) want to wear kimono perfectly, you need other things like Obi (belt), Nagajyuban, obijime and etc. However, to wear kimono is not easy. So even Japanese have to take a course to learn how to wear kimonos now. The main reason to take a course is trend toward the nuclear family, we can't learn how to wear from our parents.

I don't think foreigners can take the course easy. Hence, I recommend to buy only Kimono. Although Japanese must not wear it in such way, I think foreigners can do it. Rather, I hope you enjoy to wear Kimono as you like.

I used to wear Hakama when I practiced Kyudo. Kyudo is Japanese archery. I like wear Yukata, and Samui also too. In summer, I prefer Samui to other clothes.

Now I have to prepare to go to Tohoku on business. I look forward to eat Wanko Soba at Morioka city. I think I was born in this world to eat Japanese foods.=D

I took the photo at Tamagawa-jyosui in Tokyo. The alley is one of my favorite place in Tokyo.

South Korea fight against whom?

South Korean government has been reinforcing its military power. They are building a Aegis ship named 李舜臣, a name of a commander who destroyed Japanese navy in 16th century. Because they think Japan will invade South Korea again. When Japanese hear this news, we all laugh about this. Because the possibility is 0%.

Japan is not a such aggressive country. We love peace. For instance, in fact, we can dispatch, in theory, SDF(Self-Defense-Force) to Takashima which is a island we protest territorial rights, occupied by Korean army. Because the occupying is obvious invading as long as we protest the right.

Our SDF can wipe out their navy within some ten minuts. Korean air force will fail to gain air supremacy. Then, why we don't dispatch SDF? The reason is that we weigh heavily in diplomatic negotiations. We don't want to injure valued clients, important neighbors, close friends.

If we look at invading South Korea from a practical point of view, we will learn such invading is absolutely no remunerative business. Because South Korea doesn't have oil resource, and the nation is a developing country in comparison with Japan.

If we occupy South Korea, we will have to do a pile of work. We have to establish pension system, have to eradicate corruption, have to update the legislation, have to promote gender equality, have to expand the welfare state. We have to do measure against unemployment because many Korean companies will become bankrupt through race with Japanese companies. Those are not invasion but voluntary activities.

In addition, we have to take forceful counterterrorism measures because some Koreans will become terrorists, have to face North Korea on the 38th parallel. Those things I said can be call benefit? We have to pay tremendous money though Japanese government is poor. Their reinforcing its military power is nonsense if they do think Japan will invade again.

Why Koreans think Japan will invade them again though there is no profits? Koreans should realize international sensibility. Even though current Japanese government's policy against South Korea was bad, Korean's is worse.

However, we shouldn't press the responsibility of misunderstanding on Korean civilians. State of cold war give birth to Korean military government, and all the government does was limited, was making racialism or nationalism country, was to shift blame to Japan. South Korea looks like imperial Japan. In fact, South Korea was established by military-men who graduated Japanese imperial military academy. However, They have opened their country recently. I hope their growth and Japanese prime minister Abe adress them well.

I think I have to say that I have some nice Korean friends. They are friendliness and reliable. I think many Koreans are nice. I have concerns about their government's military policy, anti-Japanese policy and biased News of popularism. And I don't think Korean politicians do think Japan will invade Korea. I think the reinforcing is, in fact, a measure against mainly North Korean missiles.

Japanese are religious.

Are there Japanese who introduce themselves saying "I'm a irreligionist" even now? They still believe they view their own from a scientific standpoint? Japanese people who realized what Japanese is don't say such a sleep talking. They will say, for example, "I'm a buddhist and Shinto but I'm not devoted adherent.". Those who realized it perceive that Japanese have deep religious feelings.

Usually, We try to keep "death" at a distance. We tend to avoid graveyards and avoid to bring dead bodies into our sight. Because Japanese feel Kegare when we see "death". Kegare is a kind of contamination of soul. This feeling of Japanese is very religious feelings.

In addition, We can say the reason of commercial success of "Ring" and "Jyuon" is the feelings we have. We all feel existence of "akuryo(evil spirits)" . That's why the movie became a big hit. If we don't feel them, then we might jeeringly laugh at such Japanese horror movies. It is a very religious feeling that Akuryo may possess us and may take our life.

Hatumoude(new year's visit to a shrine) is a also common instance attests to our religious feeling. We pray to be blessed. Japanese ask Gods to exorcise Kegare from us at shrines. We are refreshed in Hatumoude. We can't feel this refreshing without religious feeling.

We have those feeling even now. In addition, if someone doesn't have this spirituality, he is not Japanese. Even though you change nationality thorough an office procedure and become a member of Japanese state, you can't become a Japanese belonging in Japanese nation. (According to Oxford dictionary, Nation means a country considered as a group of people with the same language, culture and history, who live in a particular area under one government. state means a country considered as an organized political community controlled by one government. So I can say nation is inartificial and state is artificial. ) When it comes to Japanese Christians, we can say they are exceptional instance which prove that this nation has been relating with other nations.

I say again we are religious. In Japan, once even many academic scientists believed religion is contrary to science. However that proved religions are closely bound up in human is rather scientists studying social science, philosophy and etc. If we scientifically express what we are, we have to say "I'm a buddhist and Shinto but I'm not devoted adherent."

This essay is a little difficult to write in English, I may recompose this.

Global Warming.

Global warming is a grave problem for us. All of us must pitch in for the fight against global warming. There are three reasons to join the fight.

First, As the temperature rises, malaria will spread to Japan. Now it has already spread to Taiwan. In near future, it may spread to all over Japan. It will claim so many people. Hospital rooms will be occupied by the victims. And other disease patients may not allow to hospitalize and killed by the occupation.

Second, it change vegetation of Japan. It will do a lot of damage to the crops. Fat supply of food will be collapsed. Serious breadbasket issue will rise up.

Third, arctic ices will melt into water. We will lose some of the land area as sea levels rise. Many huge cities are on the oceanfront area, we will lose the vital lands and city functions.

Thus, global warming cause dysfunction of our society. Even though we instituted measures to moderate global climate, we can't resolve this problem with current measures. Therefor, we need much further efforts. Otherwise you may be killed by the abnormal climate.

I wrote this essays as a study to pass a exam of Eiken 1st grade. I'm not sure if I could write good essay, However, global warming is so serious problem. I do worry about it. My family home is on an area below sea level. If the sea level rise, how can I go to my family home?

Philosophy and Moral

When we consider why Japan has the current national institution, we can find the answer by reading western philosophy. For example, natural right accepted by Japanese is derived from the philosophy. However, even though we understand such logics, we don't come across clearly. Even if someone do understand it, he doesn't feel it as westerners. Because we have another spirituality different from Europa, christian faith. We have a westernized state but the spirituality is Japanese. There is sense of discomfort in the absurdity. At least, many Japanese who study philosophy feel it.

When I majored philosophy in an university, I mainly studied buddhism. The difference between christian faith and Japanese buddhism is whether they accept human community or not. Japanese buddhism admits to this world, thus there is lack of energy to change our society. This concept is common among Japanese Buddhist scholars.

When it comes to moral reawakening issue, we find a lack of base of thought. Some people advocates we should practice Bushido again. However, it is too old. I do like to practice Kyudo, but it will not be accept by common. Even if philosophers address to the moral issue, they will arrive at a conclusion same as Buddhism. Because if we seek a logical consistency, we can't attest justice of moral. If we all realize buddhism enlightenment,,,But I can say the assumption is distant.

We need some thought to control bad side of individualism. However, every thoughts are destined to be relativize. There is no absolute thought in Japan. I wonder whether Japanese politicians can resolve the moral issue.

Faked Japan

Several month ago, I read a News Week's special issue about Japan. The writer said Japanese traditional culture was vanished. The reasons he said are that Japanese young people was not moved by Yasujiro Ozu's "Tokyo Monogatari(Tokyo Story)" and that They can't understand what actors said in olden Japanese respect language and that Japanese Students are westernized while western young people has been Japanized.

I've been looking at this magazine with skeptical eyes since then. Even though he said as if Yasujiro Ozu is one of the greatest master of movie director, he isn't such a great artist. The reason that Ozu's works is not hit with young people is that his works has not an appeal for young stars. The reason that young people can't understand Japanese olden respect language is that Japanese language has been changing.

A professor of Colombia university contradicted the writer's opinion in Japanese edition of News Week. He said Japanese traditional culture isn't vanished, it is just has been changing. I agree with what the professor mentioned. However, his opinion wasn't inserted in English Edition. Namely, the misconception of News Week wasn't corrected.

Such kind of misunderstanding is not rare. There are many foreign students misunderstand Japan. They may believe what magazines and books writers mention and they place Japan in their mold given by the writers. It seems that they were already educated that Tokyo Story is the greatest master piece of Japan, that is the Japanese before that they come to Japan.

However, the misconceptions can be a base of correct understanding. We also misunderstand other countries. I will write about it later.

Abe vs Ozawa, It can become a beginning of two-party system?

Yesterday, Abe Shinzo, Chief Cabinet Secretary, was elected as the president of Democratic Liberal Party(a ruling party). It means that he become a next prime minister of Japan in the next session of the Diet. Several days ago, Ozawa Ichiro was also elected as the president of The Democratic Party of Japan(biggest opposition party. Now it is a time to begin to cross swords.

Shinzo Abe is the most popular politician. All Japanese know he is sincere and intractableness. His most impressive achievement is that he made serious efforts for North Korean abduction issue and rescued five abduction victims. He earned applause from all Japanese.

Ichiro Ozawa is the most respected politician in Japan. Even rival party's politicians including ruling party's politicians respect him. He is called "Rubber Arm Ozawa(Gowan Ozawa)". He succeed to cause a collapse of single-party administration of Democratic Liberal Party about 13 years ago. Now Democratic Liberal Party(a ruling party) can't win elections without cooperation in election with Komeito(a newly-risen religion's party which is unpopular but have a large following in Japan.)

I hope their confrontation makes Japan a better country. Japan will conduct next Upper House election in next summer. It is said that Abe may lose next election due to Ozawa's leverage. This is really good situation for democracy. We need two-party system by conservative parties to ensure development of Japan because war of ideologies has already been concluded.

Hokkaido, A Japanese Mecca.

Now I plan to go to Hokkaido, a northern island in Japan. It's huge and there are many sight spot. Hence, I can't decide where I should go when I visit there.

Hokkaido became a part of Japan in Edo era or age of civil strife. Originally Hokkaido was not Japan and a island where Ainu race people habited. Hokkaido has been flourished from Meiji era.(Meiji era is a time ruled by westernized imperial Japan.) Thus, there are not many Japanese traditional culture things instead of there are many westernized things.

While the development, there are still many nature forests and plains. I do want to go to Kushiro bog. However, I have to go to Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, before the traveling on business. That makes me indecision. Sapporo is far from Kushiro bog. I found this pictures on a web site of Kushiro tourist association.

Hokkaido is also a mecca of raw seafoods. You can eat fresh Uni, Ikura, crab, tuna, and others. Those are so deliciaous that I have gotten food poisoning last year. I had to take a rest for 10 days. But I want to eat them even if I have gotton it again.

Hmm, where should I visit?

I will visit there in end-November.

Who should be the Emperor?

These years, there is a dispute about Imperial succession in Japan. There are two perspective. One is that allows woman to take over the throne. The other denies woman to accede it. Now imperial house low doesn't allow imperial princess to accede to be a emperor.

Those who argue accession by female often base on principle of the equality of the sexes. Sexual equality is a concept accepted as common sense by Japanese civil society. However, that claim is not logical consistency.

Sexual equality is a human rights issue. On the other hand, Japanese emperor must not go where he want to go. He must not say what he want to say. He must not resign from his imperial throne. For this reason, if they base on sexual equality, they must argue abolition of Emperor system. Japanese emperor isn't guaranteed a human right! Thus, It is impossible to argue human rights and continuation of emperor system at the same time.

We must view this throne issues from the perspective of other, namely it is traditional culture. In fact, there were eight female emperors in history. Thus, I think it is possible that Imperial princess accede to throne. First there was no boy in imperial families. If we hope continuation of emperor system, we have to allow girl to be a emperor. But this issue was freeze up by an imperial prince, who is a son of a Imperial Prince Akishino who is a younger son of the current emperor, was born about ten days ago.

Even If princess Aiko, who is a imperial princess whose father is Crown Prince Naruhito who is a elder son of current emperor Akihito, become a emperor, eventually Princess Aiko must give a way her imperial throne to Satohito who is her cousin. There is no precedent that female emperor's child took over the throne. We call this male-line-succession.

The Picture I attached is a photo of KItain temple in Kawagoe city. The buddhist temple is belonging in Tendai sect professed by mainly descendants of Japanese Emperors.

We know the fact?

At one time, global dynamics was simplicity. There were only East and West. But times have changed. Now we, humankind, are conflicting all over the world. The collisions base on differences concerning ethnics group and civilizations now. Japan has been also embroiled in the unharmonious situation.

These years, there are confrontations between Japan and others including Korea, China. The disputes was caused by virtual image by mass media. The aired informations including extreme videos describing Chinese anti-Japanese tide paralyze our mind and the image make our brains to be thought-stopping because of negative feelings.

I saw a radical Korean teacher of elementary school who teach that Japan is lowermost country, and saw a Korean man saying "we should launch a nuclear attack again" on TV News. And News reporters say "those are the facts".

However, I don't think those are overall facts. In China, during some hundred Shanghai's people were assaulting a Japanese consulate general in Shanghai, a Japanese famous singer Shinji Tanimura enthralled his audiences who are Chineses by singing his songs. It is said that there was amicability mood there, but mass medias ignored the fact, and didn't report about his concert in the slightest. The baleful phantasm made by mass medias may cause worst situation.

In Japan, the true enemy is ,maybe, mass media which report in a biased manner.

This picture I attach here is a photo of a Japanese temple, Nakain in Saitama.

It was a hard job!

I decided to use this blog service. Although I tried to use another one, it seems that this is most convenient service. Next job is inviting my friends.

I was often asked wether I have my personal blog. Whereas surely I have my own, they can't read it because it is written in Japanese. Now they must read and leave messages.=D

To make a blog in not mother language is a hard job. There are many unfamiliar wards on instructions. Event hough I have serious second and even third thoughts whether I give up to have an English blog, now I think I'm right about this challenge.

My English is broken one, so, look over my mistakes.=D

I attached a photo I took in Hokkaido in Japan.
